Ever wanted to help protect the environment — by spending your money on VIP tickets to a Christina Aguilera concert? Come April, pop music fans and fine art collectors alike will be able to something along those lines by bidding in the first green auction charitable auction put on by art business Christie’s International.
Dubbed A Bid to Save the Earth, this green auction will offer everything from a day on Californication’s set to artwork by Maya Lin. Proceeds will be split up between four esteemed environmental nonprofits: Conservation International, Oceana, Natural Resources Defense Council, and The Central Park Conservancy.
A Bid to Save the Earth has two parts: A month-long online auction and a one-night, star-studded evening sale event on Earth Day — the latter of which sounds decidedly more exciting, since the Green Auction Host Committee’s a long list of A-list celebrities including Leonardo DiCaprio, Salma Hayek, and Ed Norton. They — along with luminaries like David de Rothschild and Susan and David Rockefeller, Jr. — will descend on Christie’s in New York on April 22 — the 40th anniversary of Earth Day — to bid on major works from artists including Keith Tyson, Subodh Gupta, and Olafur Eliasson, upscale eco-vacations, and “celebrity experiences” with Hugh Jackman, Candice Bergen and many others.
