M.I.A talks about working with Christina Aguilera

The independent-minded and controversial artist teamed up with the massive popstar and her producer Switch to write the song Elastic Love- which features on Xtina’s Bionic album.

“Elastic Love was the first track I recorded actually- even before I started working on my own album,” M.I.A told us. “It’s the one I made in-between taking time out and having a baby and starting mine.”

Maya continued by comparing the song to her own recent punk rock single. said: “Born Free was the first song I wrote for my album and that’s so weird now. I look back at the time and I wrote such a nice cute song for Christina- then the next song I wrote was Born Free.”

Asked by us why she agreed to work with Aguilera the XXXO singer explained: “Other people were involved who I respect like Peaches and it was like a sea of women coming together to write this new thing. Christina had also had a baby, you know, so it was kind of an interesting situation.”

When Elastic Love leaked websites reported that it featured M.I.A- rather than just Aguilera sounding very similar. And the London born star admitted being disappointed when Christina didn’t want to do her trademark warbling in the studio.

“I really thought I was going to be able to go in there and get her vocals on to the next level and she didn’t want to do it. She was like ‘You might think that’s great because it’s not what you do, but to me I’m really bored of it.”

She added: “It’s interesting getting to work with people who can do things vocally that you cant… but yeah I only heard the song for the first time when everyone else did.”

Julianne Hough talks ‘Burlesque’

‘Dancing with the Stars’ standout and country music sensation Julianne Hough might be starring in the upcoming movie ‘Burlesque,’ but that doesn’t mean she’s straying to the pop-culture dark side.

“It’s PG-13, don’t worry,” Hough tells PopEater in an exclusive video. “It’s really tastefully done. The costumes are not any more skimpy than what you would see on any ‘Dancing With the Stars.’” That said, we’ve seen a lot of those ‘DWTS’ costumes and they are generally pretty shocking. But that’s besides the point.

Hough says she’s proud to be part of the “great” cast of the movie, which includes Cher, Kristen Bell and Christina Aguilera. ‘Burlesque’ will be released this November.

RedOne: “Gaga Loves Christina!”

We here at HipHollywood remember the pre-Lady Gaga days when Christina Aguilera wore platinum blonde hair, risque outfits and sang raunchy lyrics…”Dirrty” anyone? But, these youngin’s clearly think X-tina is biting off of Lady Gaga and have even gone as far to say that they hate each other. So, what do you think, do Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera really have a feud? Or is it just media hype? We talked to Gaga’s producer, RedOne, and he gaves us the real deal on Gaga vs. X-tina…

Claude Kelly says ‘Bionic’ will settle Gaga debate

Fans have already gotten a pretty good taste of what they can expect from Christina Aguilera’s upcoming album, Bionic, out June 8. In addition to the singles “Woohoo” and “Not Myself Tonight,” other tracks from the disc have leaked online. Despite rumors that worries about the album’s success are what prompted Aguilera to postpone her summer tour to 2011, songwriter Claude Kelly said it will be the album of the summer.

“I’m excited about Christina,” Kelly told MTV News at the “Sex and the City 2″ premiere, where he also dished about working with Leona Lewis and Jennifer Hudson on their track for the flick.

Kelly said that he enjoyed hitting the studio with Aguilera to cook up some choice tunes for the release. “I did ‘Woohoo,’ which is the single out now,” he shared about the track that also features Nicki Minaj. “I did ‘Glam,’ which is kind of like futuristic, kind of an homage to ‘Vogue’ by Madonna. [I did] a song called ‘Vanity.’ [I did one called] ‘I Hate Boys.’ She has a fun record coming out.”

Aguilera’s look during TV appearances and videos of late has led some Lady Gaga fans to accuse Christina of biting Gaga’s style. Kelly said the two pop queens couldn’t be more different.

“I will say that there’s room for everybody,” he said. “I also know Gaga as well. She’s incredible. They really are honestly two different powerhouses. Once the album comes out and they hear what Christina’s doing, I don’t think the comparisons will last. But, I mean, at the end of the day, they’re both amazing women.”

Jenna Dewan dishes on her “scandalous moment” with Christina

Channing Tatum’s wife Jenna Dewan recently was seen making a cameo appearance in Christina Aguilera’s music video for “Not Myself Tonight” as her S&M slave. “I actually thought it was dancing,” Jenna told JustJared. “I didn’t know until the day before that I was having a scandalous moment with her!”

Jenna and Christina go way back and Jenna’s a big fan.

“I used to dance with her — I only did a couple shows with her, right before Stripped and the “Dirrty” video — around that time,” Jenna explained to Just Jared. “I’m a fan of what she did with Back to Basics, that whole album and her look in that. Those were my favorites. Very retro — very her. She’s the tiniest person I’ve ever met in my life. I’ve never met anyone in my life littler than she is. She’s got this tiny little hourglass figure and that worked for that retro look!”

Jenna’s little cameo in Christina’s new video features a whole lot of her backside!

“IIIIIIIII know,” Jenna laughed. “I got the call one day from a publicist saying “Christina Aguilera would like you to do a cameo in her video, would you be interested?” and I was, like, of course! I’ve been a fan of hers forever and I love the single but they wouldn’t tell me anything until the day before!”

They didn’t even teach her the choreography until the day before!

“No — I knew nothing! All I knew was they wanted an actress – someone who was sort of well-known and she wanted somebody to do this fun cameo with her!” Jenna explained. “I actually thought it was dancing. I didn’t know until the day before that I was having a scandalous moment with her! When they told me, I just thought it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience — go for it!”

As for the comparisons being made between Christina’s new video and videos made by Lady Gaga and Madonna, Jenna’s heard all about it.

“Yes, yes, yes — I’ve heard nothing but that! You know, my thought on it is I think she looks beautiful. I think the video’s really sexy and fun and it’s meant to get people talking,” Jenna said. “And I think everyone draws comparisons from artists but she’s definitely her own, unique artist. She’s been around for over ten years and I really like it. I’m proud of that video.”

The Blast Interview: Linda Perry on working with Christina

Linda Perry has been one of the best producers in the music business and actively engaged in writing music through her experience as the lead singer of a rock band 4 Non Blondes with a hit song “What’s Up.” She has produced an amazing variety of musicians such as Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Courtney Love, Adam Lambert, Lisa Marie Presley, and Pink. She also has a partnership with Warner Music Group’s Atlantic Records division and owns her record label called Custard Records, which is widely known for its success with English singer-songwriter James Blunt.

She will present a fundraising event “An Evening with Women” held by the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center on May 1 with other celebrities such as Renée Zellweger and Christina Aguilera.

Blast got a chance to talk to her about her view of creativity, life, and music.

BLAST: You’ve produced many musicians, such as Pink, Courtney Love, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Adam Lambert and so on. How do you get the most out of their talents?

LINDA: Well, I get the most out of their talents by getting people focused on what we are here to do not here to, like when people come into my studio, like I said, I’m not here to … um … kiss their ass. I’m not here to make things smoother and soft-pedal things for them. They are coming into my studio to work and make music and to do something, you know, meaningful. Now, to me, something meaningful and heartfelt or real isn’t a hit. It is not always a hit. It’s just “Let’s do something cool. Let’s do something real.” I don’t wanna waste my time with all this bullshit that you can get from other people. I wanna do something unique so what you get from work time is something unique whatever that means to you. That’s people who listen to their side what’s considered unique. Some people think unique is a hit song. To me, it’s not. To me, it’s an experience. If they have a song, like if you listen to my song on Adam Lambert’s album, for instance, it’s not a hit. But it’s a really great cool song. It’s unique from the rest of the album. That’s what I do. I like to consider myself like if you wanna give an analogy, it is in another term, it’s more like going to someone for contour outfit. No one else is gonna have this. You know, the next album I do, you are not gonna hear Adam Lambert, Christina Aguilera, Pink. If you actually put all those songs together, not one of them sounds anything remotely like each other. You know, that’s what I do. I will give you something unique.

BLAST: Is there any special memory with them that you would like to share?

LINDA: No, I don’t share things with the people that I work with. I mean, that’s our private moments. I can write a great book though with the stuff that I know. But you know, for me, I’m private. I’m that type of person and I think that’s why people like working with me. They know when they come to my studio and work with me. I’m not trying to promote myself. There’s a lot of producers out there that try to promote themselves and tell you stories about working with so and so and blah blah blah blah…um, you know, there’s obvious things that Christina is an incredible singer, bottom line, she works her ass off. She’s perfection. Love it. You know, Gwen Stefani is one of the most down-home, most humble people I’ve ever met in the business. You know, she’s incredible and she is funny and dorky and I really like her a lot. Adam Lambert is a really sweet guy. Really really sweet. You know, Pink, she’s a very strong girl that has very strong opinions. You know, those I’ve been telling you that, obvious. Those are the things that are obvious.

Sia talks about Christina and “Bionic”

You have been working with Christina Aguilera, correct?

Sia: Yeah, how exciting. I nearly pooped my pants when I got the call to set up a meeting with her. I took my friend Sammy, who used to be my bass player for 17 years. We were nervy because she has a reputation of being hardcore. She wasn’t. She was such a softie bum and a real sweetie. She was easy to work with and we ended up with four songs on the record. They flew us back to write another song for her movie Burlesque with Cher.

Oh, really?

Sia: Yes, this album can do absolutely f*** all but I can do fine, thanks to Christina. It takes a lot of the pressure off. [ Electronica band ] Zero 7 did that to me. They made me enough money originally to sabotage my solo career over and over again.

Well, you are free to do what you want now. Christina has lots of guest artists on her new album, I heard.

Sia: Yeah, Santogold, M.I.A. and Le Tigre. She works with lots of people. Her new record is f***ing amazing. You are gonna die, it’s so good.

Sia talks about studio time with Xtina

It wasn’t one of those things where you said, “I’m going to write an up-tempo album.”

Sia: No, not at all. Because also, I wrote a lot of ballads for Christina for her album, so a lot of my ballads went to her. In fact, my management heard my album and said, “We think maybe you need one more ballad,” and I was like, “I totally agree with you.” I don’t want to disappoint my fans, and part of the reason they like me in the first place is because of the weepies and their ability to project whatever they’re going through onto those weepies. I don’t want to deny anyone that. I don’t want to be one of those artists that just changes and leaves everybody perplexed so they’re saying, “What? We only liked you because of those weepies and now you give us this? What are we supposed to do with this?” I’m hoping that my fans will come with me on the ride because this is just an album I wanted to make. Those last two albums were albums I needed to make, but this is one I just wanted to make.

Was the process of collaborating with Christina a lengthy one? That album seems to have been in the works for a while.

Sia: No. We did a song a day. It was so easy! We’d go in there between 12 and 2 and we’d start on something and kind of get the bare bones going and I might still have some lyrics missing or I might not have a bridge melody, and she’d come in at 2:00 and would bulldoze us. She was amazing. She’d be like, “Well, how ’bout this? Squiddly-bobo [sound of jazzy note singing],” and it would be a 10 times better song. Or she’d be like, “Can we use the word ‘lioness’ here?” and I’d be like, “Fuck yeah,” and it would end up being the best word in the song. She was just really easy to work with. She’s not a control freak. She’s a perfectionist but not controlling in any way. She was really open and it was awesome. It was a really awesome experience for me to be working for someone. I would like to do more of that. I’m not sure if I want to be an “artist.”

Akon: ‘I Miss The Old Christina Aguilera’

Last week, in-demand songwriter Claude Kelly called comparisons between Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera “crap,” citing the latter powerhouse vocalist’s decade plus longevity in a business where career success is fleeting.

Now, multiplatinum artist and producer Akon, who signed Gaga to his Kon Live Distribution label in 2008, is giving his own view on the musical battle that’s igniting debate on both sides of the fence.

“Aw man, that’s not even any competition,” Akon tells VIBE. “You are actually giving Christina too much credit. She always had her cool little look and way about how she went about things. But soon as Gaga came out everything switched up. Christina stepped out of her own shell to become something different. And the crazy thing is Christina is really talented. She has unlimited range when it comes to singing. Her voice is out of here. I just think she just needs to believe in herself more. I think sometimes she gets insecure because of all of the success Gaga has had not realizing that she was already successful before Gaga came out.”

Akon hopes Aguilera’s upcoming album Bionic showcases more of her dynamic voice and less of the up-tempo, electro pop bad-girl anthems typified by her latest single “Not Myself Tonight.”
