Christina Aguilera: Why I’m Sometimes Attracted to Women

Christina Aguilera’s risqué outfits, skin-tight costumes and provocative photo shoots aren’t just for show. The singer says her sexy image is her way of getting out what she believes is an important message.

“I feel sexuality to be very empowering,” the singer, 29, tells U.K. magazine Company in its July issue. “I think men love to believe that they own our sexuality, so if a woman represents herself in a sexual way, people think, ‘Oh it must be for a man.’”

“But men don’t have the right to own our sexuality,” she says. “If I want to be sexual, it’s for my own appreciation and enjoyment! That’s why I like to talk about the fact that sometimes I am attracted to women. I appreciate their femininity and beauty.”

Before calling her a feminist, be warned, Aguilera says she doesn’t like to get into labels. Instead, she’s simply fighting “for women’s rights in the sense that we shouldn’t be ashamed of ourselves or our bodies.”

But husband Jordan Bratman has nothing to worry about. His wife of almost five years knew he was The One, because when they met, “Everything was a little blurry and he was the one concrete person that I could trust,” she tells the magazine. “He was centered, grounded and always helped me see the positive in the negative. He would lift me out of my black hole of sometimes feeling sucked in by the negativity of people around me. My husband is the calm in the storm.”

Though she acknowledges “you have to work at all relationships,” she says she couldn’t have found a better partner than Bratman. “He’s my team mate in everything we do,” she says. “He definitely makes life easier.”

Christina Aguilera on motherhood and work

Christina Aguilera has spoken out about the difficulty of juggling her personal and professional lives.

“The toughest part is the schedule – balancing that between being a mommy and being able to still concentrate and focus on the work,” the pop star said.

“I’ll go and tuck my son in at night and sing him to sleep [with] a lullaby, and then I go in the studio and sing. It’s definitely a challenge and a balancing act, but one that I take on. I wouldn’t have it any other way,” the 29-year-old told People magazine.

Aguilera and husband Jordan Bratman are parents to 2-year-old Max.

On her parenting style, the singer explained: “I really like to let him be creative and give him the freedom to really have fun.

“I think fun is a really big element of life itself, and being able to take in the small things. I’m instilling that in him early – being playful, and allowing him to get messy and dirty as a boy and just have fun; to really push for his individuality.”

Win a digital copy of ‘Bionic’!

Follow @Q102Philly on Twitter (www.twitter.com/q102philly) to win a copy of Christina Aguilera’s newest album ‘Bionic’ before it hits stores on June 8th! Christina Aguilera, returns with her highly anticipated 4th studio album, Bionic. Featuring the fiercely energetic anthem, “Not Myself Tonight”, available everywhere June 8th from RCA Records.

Christina enters hipster territory as “Bionic” woman

Seemingly out of nowhere, she was describing the process that led to “Bionic,” her futuristic new disc. “Sorry,” Aguilera told the 200 or so audience members gathered for this taping of VH1’s “Storytellers.” “I get ahead of myself sometimes. But they can edit this. Cut and paste!”

As it happens, “cut and paste” goes a long way toward describing the choppy postmodern vibe on “Bionic,” due June 8 from RCA. A pronounced about-face from the warmly retro-fied “Back to Basics” — which has sold nearly 1.7 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan — the 18-track set contains beat-driven collaborations with a host of edgy dance-music acts, including M.I.A., Le Tigre, Peaches and Switch. More mainstream talent appears as well, in the form of Polow Da Don, Tricky Stewart and longtime Aguilera confidante Linda Perry.

To be sure, “Bionic” comes loaded with the requisite number of radio-bait hooks, not to mention a handful of stately ballads destined to appeal to fans of the singer’s 2002 smash, “Beautiful.” (That single’s parent album, “Stripped,” has sold more than 4.2 million copies, while Aguilera’s 1999 self-titled debut has sold nearly 8.2 million.)

Christina Aguilera’s Fashion Allergy

Christina Aguilera loves wearing latex even though it gives her an itchy rash.

The singer – whose new single ‘Not Myself Tonight’ shows the pop star in a number of racy and provocative outfits – admitted shooting the video for the raunchy song was “torture” because of the tight latex clothing.

She said: “For my video shoot I didn’t go to bed until five in the morning… in the freezing rain, in the cold, wearing a two-piece red latex outfit. Torture! I got nauseous with exhaustion from the video shoot. It was just a long day. Did I get a skin allergy from the latex? I did get a little bit of a rash at one point. Where? Next question!”

The 29-year-old beauty – who has a two-year-old son, Max, with her music producer husband Jordan Bratman – admitted her spouse loves to see her in fetish clothing, although she wouldn’t like it if he tried to match.

She said: “It’s beautiful…I’m really into fetish gear and latex is really making a strong statement for me. Good body contours. Has my husband worn it? I would not know! And I’ll never know! You don’t want to get your b**ls caught in that.”

The only time Christina hasn’t worn such provocative outfits is when she was pregnant.

She added to Q magazine: “Have I ever toned it down? Never! Well, maybe when I was pregnant. There was no latex then.”

Christina tears up ‘You Lost Me’ on ‘American Idol’ Finale

Christina Aguilera may have taken a few years off to raise her son, but the singer proved she’s back in a big way on the “American Idol” finale Wednesday night (May 26).

The singer — who will perform at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on June 6 — tore into a stirring, soulful version of “You Lost Me,” a track from her forthcoming Bionic LP, that proved, if there were any doubt, that she’s got one of the best voices in the business.

Aguilera took the stage after this season’s female contestants — Lacey Brown, Didi Benami, Katie Stevens, Siobhan Magnus and Crystal Bowersox — performed a medley of her hits “Beautiful” and “Fighter,” emerging from below the stage to help put the finishing flourishes on the latter, then, as the stage went dark, stepping out into a spotlight for her solo.

Accompanied by somber strings and a piano, hair pulled back in her Bionic curls, and wearing a demure black ensemble, Aguilera started softly, singing about smoking guns, lost magic and the tragedy of a dying relationship, then picked up steam from there as the music swirled beneath her. The middle section of the song was smoky and solemn, Aguilera stretching the notes, then, eyes closed and right arm outstretched, sang for the rafters.

Her voice got bigger and bigger as the song entered the home stretch, but she never let things get out of control, and brought the tune home with a simple, breathy “You lost me.”

And as the “Idol” audience gave her a much-deserved standing ovation, it became clear that Aguilera still has got the goods to go up against anyone.

The Bionic Woman

SHE was a Mousketeer who became a genie in a bottle who later became a very dirrty girl. Then went back to basics, had a kid and is now bionic.

We are, of course, talking about Christina Aguilera, the singer who has had a fairly good run in the pop star stakes despite being less controversial than Britney and not as innovative as Madonna.

Already, the Internet is abuzz about her new album, Bionic, and her return to the scene after taking time off to be a mummy to Max Liron Bratman. And she’s sexier than ever.

Christina Aguilera Postpones North American Tour

Christina Aguilera has postponed her 20-date North American summer tour until next year, according to a statement from tour producer Live Nation. The singer was set to tour in support of her new album, “Bionic,” due June 8.

“Christina Aguilera’s summer tour has been moved to 2011 due to prior commitments that the singer had made to her film ‘Burlesque’ and to the promotion of her new album ‘Bionic,’” according to a statement from Live Nation. “The singer felt she needed more time to rehearse the show and with less than a month between the album release and tour date this wasn’t possible.”

A new round of dates will be announced later this year, and ticket refunds are available at point of purchase.

Aguilera’s trek was scheduled to begin July 15 at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn., and wrap Aug. 19 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Irvine, Calif. British pop singer Leona Lewis had been tapped to open the concerts.

Christina to perform at American Music Festival?

Some of the biggest names in music are headed to Daytona Beach. The American Music Festival announced Friday it’s bringing in acts this summer that include Janet Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Christina Aguilera and Rihanna.

All of the artists are coming with the intention of playing outside, too, at the Bandshell on the beach.

The city is so eager to get people to the venue for the shows and experience the beach it’s putting up more than $100,000 just to promote it.

Country music’s entertainer of the year, Carrie Underwood, is going to share the same Daytona Beach stage as R&B star Usher and the current “it” kid in pop music, Justin Bieber. They’ll be part of a series of eight major concert events in Daytona Beach and organizers said the artists’ managers wanted them to play Daytona Beach.

“These people are visionaries. They see something good and, right at the get-go, they want to be a part of it, and so they came to us actually,” said Manuel Bornia, Community Cultural Foundation.

The festival is designed to raise the Daytona Beach image in the minds of residents and visitors. After major concerts in June at the Bandshell, it will expand to shows at the Ocean Center, Peabody Center and Main Street.

Daytona Beach committed $125,000 to promote it. The city has given hundreds of thousands for music events before, with little return, but said the organization is different this time.

“We’ve committed money to beer parties that had a music element involved. This is going to be the highest-quality music entertainment we can have,” city council member Rick Shiver said.

It has already spawned requests for $63,000 from other groups eager to have the city promote their own concert series, money that hasn’t been approved.

Attendees will also be polled and data gathered to determine if the concert events actually work in the way they’re supposed to.

The other performers announced Friday are the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovatto and Selena Gomez.

Tickets go on sale May 29, but specific dates for the performances have not been released.
