Christina Aguilera: Why I’m Sometimes Attracted to Women
Christina Aguilera’s risqué outfits, skin-tight costumes and provocative photo shoots aren’t just for show. The singer says her sexy image is her way of getting out what she believes is an important message.
“I feel sexuality to be very empowering,” the singer, 29, tells U.K. magazine Company in its July issue. “I think men love to believe that they own our sexuality, so if a woman represents herself in a sexual way, people think, ‘Oh it must be for a man.’”
“But men don’t have the right to own our sexuality,” she says. “If I want to be sexual, it’s for my own appreciation and enjoyment! That’s why I like to talk about the fact that sometimes I am attracted to women. I appreciate their femininity and beauty.”
Before calling her a feminist, be warned, Aguilera says she doesn’t like to get into labels. Instead, she’s simply fighting “for women’s rights in the sense that we shouldn’t be ashamed of ourselves or our bodies.”
But husband Jordan Bratman has nothing to worry about. His wife of almost five years knew he was The One, because when they met, “Everything was a little blurry and he was the one concrete person that I could trust,” she tells the magazine. “He was centered, grounded and always helped me see the positive in the negative. He would lift me out of my black hole of sometimes feeling sucked in by the negativity of people around me. My husband is the calm in the storm.”
Though she acknowledges “you have to work at all relationships,” she says she couldn’t have found a better partner than Bratman. “He’s my team mate in everything we do,” she says. “He definitely makes life easier.”

Inside a soundstage at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles last week, Christina Aguilera is talking about the inspiration behind her 2006 album, “Back to Basics,” on which she paid tribute to the soul and blues artists who originally inspired her to sing.
Or at least that was what she was talking about. Now, seemingly out of nowhere, she’s describing the impetus that led to “Bionic,” her futuristic new disc. “Sorry,” Aguilera tells the 200 or so audience members gathered for this taping of VH1’s “Storytellers.” “I get ahead of myself sometimes. But they can edit this. Cut and paste!”

Christina Aguilera’s Stroke of Genius
Christina Aguilera is at a crossroads in her life, and when she sat down with Latina’s senior editor Angie Romero, she opened up about everything from the dangers that came along with early success to her relationship with her estranged father to how her super supportive hubby, Jordan Bratman, ultimately saved her. It’s clear that motherhood has rearranged priorities for the pop star who is lovingly referred to by fans as Xtina, and she has applied that laser-like focus to her highly-anticipated new album, Bionic, and her first movie role opposite Cher in the upcoming film Burlesque.
Pick up the June/July issue of Latina to get the full lowdown on what Christina had to say, and check out the sultry singer’s beautiful images as she tells her story in her own words.

On her relationship with her husband, Jordan Bratman:
“Jordy was the calm in the storm when everybody else was driving me crazy. I had a lot of older people around me who were conniving—and these people do that so you cling to them. He was the person who reached down, pulled me out and made me see reason. I’m very lucky to have him.”
On being a hands-on mom:
“I’m definitely that mom that crawls around on the floor and gets a little crazy,” Aguilera says. “I turn into being 12 years old again.”
On her relationship with estranged father:
“Yeah, it’s pretty nonexistent. I’m in a place in my life where I just don’t see a reason for it. There’s always room for forgiveness—and I do forgive—but you grow up and make choices for your family. To remember the chaos that she [mother] went through, the abuse, I don’t know how she did it. But it’s amazing how much you can trick your mind into surviving when you have to.”
On rumors of a diva rivalry with costar Cher on the set of their film Burlesque:
“I was laughing so much when I heard that because Cher and I were like old girlfriends. I actually find that people who have been in the business the longest, they’re just the coolest because they don’t have anything to prove, so they can leave their egos and the stupidity behind.”
On hoarding everything ever written about her and accepting criticism:
“Sometimes I think I let things hurt me more than I should’ve because they weren’t worth my time or my energy,” admits Aguilera.

Christina shoots down Cher feud rumors: We’re ‘like old girlfriends’
Christina Aguilera is addressing rumors of diva antics and a rivalry with co-star Cher in the upcoming “Burlesque.”
“I was laughing so much when I heard that because Cher and I were like old girlfriends,” the 29-year-old singer told Latina Magazine in the June/July issue.
“I actually find that people who have been in the business the longest, they’re just the coolest because they don’t have anything to prove,” she continued. “So, they can leave their egos and the stupidity behind.”
The singer, who is about drop a new album, “Bionic,” on June 8, said she’s worked hard to avoid having to deal with stupidity when it comes to her career.
“As a young female growing up in this business, your bite has to kind of be bigger than your bark. Sometimes you have to speak a little louder, push a little harder, and I definitely did that when the going got tough,” she explained. “But there were moments when I got taken advantage of because I trusted the wrong people. My instincts got a lot sharper over the years, so I’m thankful for that.”
Christina is also very thankful for her husband of five years, Jordan Bratman, who she says helps her see the world more clearly.
“Jordy was the calm in the storm when everybody else was driving me crazy. I had a lot of older people around me who were conniving – and these people do that so you cling to them,” she told the mag. “He was the person who reached down, pulled me out and made me see reason. I’m very lucky to have him.”
Christina and Cher will be seen on the big screen together when “Burlesque” hits theaters in November.

Christina Aguilera: I Have “Nonexistent” Relationship With My Dad
These days, singer Christina Aguilera is a happy wife (to Jordan Bratman) and mom (to 2-year-old son Max).
One person not in her life? Her estranged father Fausto Aguilera. Their relationship, Aguilera tells Latina magazine, is “pretty nonexistent. I’m in a place in my life where I just don’t see a reason for it.”
The pop star has said that Fausto, a former U.S. Army Sergeant, was emotionally and physically abusive; he and her mom, Shelly Kearns, split when Christina was just seven, and she rarely saw him after that.
“To remember the chaos that [my mother] went through, the abuse, I don’t know how she did it,” Aguilera, 29, tells Latina. “But it’s amazing how much you can trick your mind into surviving when you have to.”
“There’s always room for forgiveness,” the “Not Myself Tonight” songstress adds. “And I do forgive–but you grow up and make choices for your family.”
In 1999 — when Aguilera first became a teen pop rival to Britney Spears — she reunited with Fausto after 12 years following an NYC concert. “We spoke for the first time in a long while. Really, he’s a stranger to me,” she told Rolling Stone at the time. “He’s apologized,” she added. “I think he had a lot of guilt.”
Things are infinitely better with Bratman, whom she married in 2005. “Jordy was the calm in the storm when everybody else was driving me crazy,” she tells Latina.
“I had a lot of older people around me who were conniving–and these people do that so you cling to them. He was the person who reached down, pulled me out and made me see reason. I’m very lucky to have him.”
The June issue of Latina hits stands May 25.
